In our project, we provided a foundation in robotics for students 5th grade through high school. Students in high school learned programming through the Finch Robot, and students 5-8th grade created and programmed robots using the Hummingbird Kit. It was a great way for the students to see that robotics can be something for everyone. I think the middle school students are going to try our school's FIRST Lego League next year, which is something they hadn't considered before. Also, in high school computer science education, programing with all the applications of the Finch Robot is much more enjoyable than just sitting in front of a screen. For me, seeing the connections made by the students, the creations, and how proud the families of the students are really motivated me and I am looking forward to next year.
We ended the Hummingbird Robotics Club before spring break to prepare for testing. We are going to recruit more students next year and work through some other challenges listed in the Mid Year Repot. High school is still working with the Finch Robot, but testing is going to be the priority. Both the computer science teacher and I are going to work together to create a more comprehensive program, now that we are more familiar with what each kit can do.
